I gathered a core group of people who helped me rebuild it. I went to every training with them — not to supervise, but to understand exactly what they needed to succeed. I never micromanaged a single person. I trusted them completely. Volunteers who weren't even paid started working harder than most paid employees ever do.
Recently the vice chair — someone who'd been there since day one — called me. He said it simply runs itself now. He told me he thought I was crazy back when everything was on fire, and I told him this was the vision. But he stayed. And now here we are.
That experience became the ten principles I now call The Clearline Method: calm under pressure, leading from the front, collaborative but accountable, operationally focused, direct and transparent, and trust through consistency.
